Test of Faith

Here the story of Abraham and Isaac is recalled with the words: "Because you ...have not withheld your son, your only son, I will indeed bless you, and will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven and as the sand...on the sea shore...by your descendants shall all the nations of the earth bless themselves, because you have obeyed my voice."

Here again there is an interesting reference to the New Testament and in particular the Christ event. Abraham was going to sacrifice his son and in the words of scripture his "...only son," as a sign of his faith and trust in God. This story was to be repeated in another circumstance but then it was God's only son, Jesus the Christ, which was sacrificed, not on an alter on top of Mt. Moriah on the altar of a cross on another mountain..
